Flomoxef is a new oxacephem antibiotic which has a broad antibacterial spectrum against gram positive, gram negative, anaerobic bacteria and methicillin resistant-staphylococcus aureus(MRSA).
The prophylactic efficacy of flomoxef was compared with cefmetazole in 40 patients who underwent pelvic operation in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Asan Medical Center, from April, 1994 to August, 1994.
The clinical efficacy rate of flomoxef was higher than that of cefmetazole(905 vs 50% respectively, p<0.05). The frequencies of side effect and abnormal clinical laboratory finding in cefmetazole used group were much higher in flomoxef used group.
Therefore flomoxef can be used effectively and safely for the prophylaxis of postoperative infectous diseases in obstetrics and gynecologic field.
